BloggingZoom
In my quest to find a service that works similar to Digg but is designed specifically for blogs and bloggers I have discovered a great site called BloggingZoom. BloggingZoom and Pluggy share many qualities (in fact, they use the same code) but whereas Pluggy is a portion of Blogsrecord, BloggingZoom is specifically a blog social bookmarking site and the focus really shows.
Because all that BloggingZoom does is the blog social bookmarking, it is much more popular than Pluggy and having the extra users makes a big difference. In the past week of me using BloggingZoom I've had 6 visits to my site from it and I've only had one post become popular. Compared to the 1 hit I've received so far from Pluggy, that's a huge difference.
As far as the interface, it works the same as Pluggy or Digg. You can submit an article in much the same manner as either of those sites, categorize it, and vote on other's posts - in this case, zoom it. Already, I've discovered some very nice blogs using BloggingZoom.
If you have a blog, I highly suggest using BloggingZoom to help promote your site and if you don't have a blog I highly suggest using BloggingZoom to find some really cool blogs to read.
BloggingZoom has made available a WordPress plug-in that allows you to insert a voting button like the one you see at the top right of this post. Obviously, I don't use WordPress here on Blogger, so if you would like to add this button to your Blogger blog follow these steps below.
Go to the template tab in your settings and select the Edit HTML tab. Be sure to click the check box to expand widget templates and find the following code that I have highlighted in your template.
Immediately above the <p><data:post.body/></p> line of code insert the following code:
<div style='float:right;'><script type='text/javascript'>submit_url='<data:post.url/>';
</script><script src='http://bloggingzoom.com/evb/button.php' type='text/javascript'/></div>
Save your template and enjoy your new BloggingZoom voting button on all of your posts.
By the way, if you would rather have the voting button on the left side of your post instead of the right change the <div style='float:right;'> to <div style='float:left;'>
Enjoy.

These are cool sites, but here's my bug with them; the narrow range of categories. No art, no photography, no writing. Pretty much leaves me in the dust.
Jayne,
BloggingZoom is really new (little more than a week old). The guys running it are doing everything they can to make it user friendly. I would wager that if you emailed them and asked they would add some of the categories you mentioned. There's really no reason why they haven't already. They probably just didn't think of it.
That's a good point, Jason. I think I'll keep a list of categories I would have used for my submissions and send it to them when I have quite a few good suggestions.
Thanks for mentioning pluggy and blogsrecord in your posts :)
Im sure over time both will grow.
You may find my other sites interesting
http://stemble.com and http://gottoread.com
@Chris - No problem. I enjoy getting the word out about sites that I use. I'll definitely check out stemble and gottoread, too.
Hey Zybron,
I just found blogging zoom myself and think it's a great site. I haven't heard of pluggy though so I'll be checking it out soon :)
Cheers,
Heather
Hey Zybron,
How do I do this on individual post instead of the button on every post. I have 190 post & it does not look good with all that huge 0s on every post.
Also, is it possible to put this at the bottom so at least it indicates they've read the article & appreciates it enough to give it a zoom.
Thanks for the help.
Hey I really appreciate the bit of code you included above to make Blogging Zoom appear on Blogger - I just set it up and it worked right out of the box.
Cool stuff..........
Thanks a lot for that code. It works perfect.
